official state flag, adopted 1856
The
navy blue background symbolizes the federal affiliation with the United
States of America. The green stripes signify the importance of agriculture,
and brown the importance of mining and industry to the state. The yellow
sun and orange rays symbolize the perpetual presence of the sun, and
blue emphasizes the continual presence of hope for a prosperous future.
